Clayvon McNeil Obituary

Clayvon Roberson McNeil was born on January 22, 1942, to the late Isaiah Roberson and Mary Lou Powell Roberson in Hassell, North Carolina. On January 26, 2023, she peacefully went home to be with God, and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. At a young age, she accepted Christ, was baptized and became a member of Weeping Mary Missionary Baptist Church and was one of the Mothers of the Church at the time of her death.

On January 16, 1960, Clayvon married the late Owen McNeil Senior. To this union five children were born: Owen, Kelvin, Beverly, Sheila and Cynthia.

Clayvon was a devoted military wife and mother who took pride in her chosen profession of being a homemaker. She loved to travel and being a military wife afforded her the opportunity to live all over the world. Her favorite past-time was working in her yard. She had a "green thumb" and kept a yard full of beautiful flowers. She was easygoing but never passive. She was decisive and extremely intelligent. She moved at her own deliberate pace. Clayvon did things her own way and in her own time just as she lived her life in her own way and on her own terms.

She was adored by her family. She dedicated herself to providing her children with a delicate balance of love and discipline. Clayvon was not just a mother to her own children, but to other children. Her home was open to many. She fed them, loved them, and provided a safe haven for them. She was easy to talk to and quite liberal for her time. She didn't judge or try to change you. She encouraged you to be you and believe in yourself. Her home was always full of kids, laughter and joy. She would feed the homeless and wanderers who came to her doorstep. She saw them as God's children, and she treated them all with love and respect. In return, they would often gift her with tokens of appreciation such as pecans or sweet potatoes left on her doorstep. Clayvon was the ultimate caregiver. She cared for her father-in-law and husband when they became ill. She took care of several of the elderly. She loved them all and never complained. All who encountered her grace felt her love and acceptance.

Clayvon was preceded in death by her husband, US Army Retired Sgt. SFC Owen McNeil Sr., and her daughter, Beverly Ann McNeil; two brothers Andrew “Buddy” Roberson, Sr and Robert Earl Roberson. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons and two daughters: Owen McNeil (Linda) of Greenville, North Carolina, Kelvin McNeil of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Sheila McNeil Meadows (Anthony) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Cynthia McNeil Baker (Billy) of Grifton, North Carolina. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Ella McNeil of Waldorf, Maryland.

Clayvon was blessed with eight granddaughters, and four grandsons: Chalyce Brie Hager-Baker, Tia Baker, Brooke Vance, Avia Blocker (Damon), Ashley Alufohai (Auzoyah), Aliya Meadows, Crystal Carmack, Shuntel Bynum, Aaron Baker, Kelvin McNeil Jr. (Ruth), Tevin McNeil, and Shai Alexander Roberts. She was also blessed with 13 great grandchildren.

She leaves four sisters that she cherished: Mrs. Rebecca Harrell of Robersonville, North Carolina, Mrs. Evelyn R. Council of Hassell, North Carolina; Missionary Jackie Carr (Luther) of Hassell, North Carolina; and Pastor Delores Seabrooks of Robersonville, North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
